Ubud — the cultural interior
Rice terraces, yoga, temples, Balinese cooking classes, Sacred Monkey Forest, and the Tegalalang Rice Terraces. It's inland, 90 minutes from the airport. Quieter evenings. Most honeymoon villas cluster here.
Uluwatu — the cliff beaches and surf
Southernmost Bali. Dramatic limestone cliffs, Uluwatu Temple, world-class sunsets at Single Fin. Surf is intermediate-to-advanced. Our Bali Unhurried plans a sundowner here.
Canggu — the young expat scene
Digital nomad capital, good coffee, traffic is real. Beaches are black sand and okay for swimming. Good for solo travellers and friends in their 20s–30s who want nightlife and cafes.
Seminyak — refined and developed
Shopping, spa, high-end dining. Beaches are wider but more commercial. Middle-aged couples like it for comfort.
A three-stop trip (most common)
- 3 nights Ubud
- 2 nights Uluwatu or Seminyak
- 1–2 nights elsewhere (Nusa Penida, Sidemen, Amed)
Skip Kuta unless you're nostalgic for 2005. For current Bali maps, see Indonesia Tourism Bali section. Need a custom route? Talk to a Bali specialist.
