6 Rajasthan forts most tourists miss

1. Kumbhalgarh

UNESCO World Heritage. Its 36-km fortified wall is the second-longest in the world after the Great Wall of China. 70 km from Udaipur. Spectacular at sunset.

2. Taragarh — Bundi

Where Kipling wrote. The fort's rain-water tanks and painted pavilions are in ruined-state that's honestly more atmospheric than Amber.

3. Khejarla

A 17th-century fort between Jodhpur and Bikaner, now a heritage hotel. You sleep inside the walls. Quiet rural Rajasthan.

4. Chittorgarh

The largest fort in India by area. Most Rajasthan circuits skip it because it's a three-hour detour from Udaipur. That's precisely why it's uncrowded.

5. Bhangarh

Famous for being "the most haunted fort in India" — and because of that, locals don't come. Architecture is remarkable. A day trip from Jaipur.

6. Ahhichatragarh — Nagaur

Restored by the Mehrangarh Museum Trust. Gardens, hammams, and the best-preserved fort interior in the state. Few visitors.

We route two or three of these into long-form Rajasthan trips like our Mewar Slow Route. For a custom fort-focused itinerary, talk to a specialist.
