Thailand beaches compared: Krabi, Phi Phi, Phuket, Koh Samui

Krabi — limestone cliffs, family-friendly

Railay Beach, reachable only by boat. Rock climbing. Great for families. Calmer than Phuket. Best Nov–Apr.

Phi Phi Islands — Instagram-famous, now recovering

Post-pandemic, the Maya Bay closure helped recovery. You can visit again but numbers are capped. Staying overnight on Koh Phi Phi Don is noisy; day-trips from Krabi are better.

Phuket — Thailand's biggest, most developed

Patong is loud and commercial. But Kata, Kamala, and the north-west beaches (Nai Yang) are quieter. Phuket wins on food variety and flights. Good for first-time Thailand.

Koh Samui — the eastern alternative

Bigger, greener, and less developed than Phuket. Home to the Big Buddha and Chaweng beach. Flight goes through Bangkok. Pricier on average.

Our one-sentence picks

  • First-timers: Phuket + Phi Phi day trip.
  • Couples / honeymoon: Krabi + Koh Lanta.
  • Families: Phuket north-west beaches.
  • Nightlife seekers: Koh Samui or Pattaya.
