Days 1–2: Hanoi
The old quarter is the calibration. Pho for breakfast, egg coffee at Giang, and a night walk around Hoan Kiem Lake. Visit the Temple of Literature.
Day 3: Halong Bay (overnight cruise)
A UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overnight on a junk boat is worth the splurge. Pick a smaller operator.
Days 4–5: Hue and Hoi An
Overnight train or 1h flight to Danang, then 40 min to Hoi An. Lantern-lit old town at night, tailors by day, and My Son Sanctuary for Cham ruins. Hue's Imperial Citadel pairs well if you like history.
Days 6–7: Danang
Beach, An Bang cafes, Ba Na Hills cable car, and the Dragon Bridge lit up on weekends.
Days 8–10: Saigon + Mekong
Ho Chi Minh City is chaotic and delicious. War Remnants Museum is sobering. Day-trip to the Mekong Delta (Cai Be, Cai Rang floating market).
