A 10-day Kerala itinerary for families with kids

Days 1–2: Fort Kochi

Easy arrival. Stay in Fort Kochi. Chinese fishing nets at sunset, St Francis Church, and the spice market. Jew Town for a short walk.

Days 3–4: Munnar

5h scenic drive. Tea plantation tours, Eravikulam National Park (Nilgiri tahrs are kid-friendly). Evenings are cool — pack layers.

Days 5–6: Thekkady

3h drive. Periyar Tiger Reserve boat safari, spice plantation walk, bamboo rafting for older kids.

Day 7: Alleppey houseboat

One overnight on a private houseboat. Meals cooked onboard. Kids love the boat, parents love the pace.

Days 8–9: Marari Beach

40 min from Alleppey. Beach resort stay. Coconut-grove cycling, pool days, occasional fishing-village walks.

Day 10: Kochi and departure

Drive back 2h, fly out.

What works for kids

  • Houseboat (one night, not more).
  • Spice-plantation walks.
  • Munnar tea-museum tasting.
  • Short elephant-free wildlife encounters.

What to skip

  • Wayanad on a first trip (too much driving).
  • Ayurveda (it's adult-focused).
  • Two nights of houseboat — one is plenty.
